Erik & Committee:

Boards of Review: will be held during the Troop meeting on Dec. 6; I will send a more detailed announcement to the Troop via e-mail and to Patti for the newsletter.

December Bike Ride: I am planning on riding with the scouts. One of my suggestions for improvement is that we do more bike rides, including bike camping, which I am happy to organize and participate in.

Suggestions: I think this troop is extremely well run, compared to the troop I was in as a scout, and others with which I have come into contact. Some of the membership ups and downs are part of long-term demographic and cultural cycles over which we have no immediate control, such as birth rate, computers, media/sports models, etc. Our challenge is provide activities that grab kids' interest and give them something different than what mainstream society feeds them. I will give Erik some more specific ideas in the evaluation.

Agenda - Committee Meeting - November 7, 2005

Scoutmaster Report - Erik
*Surveys - parents, scouts, patrols

In progress. We have had a lot of Scouts drop out recently with more
planning on leaving. I am looking for suggestions for improvement. I am also
concerned about the quality of the Troop's program so far this year. From the
limited evaluations I have gotten from the Scouts so far tonight, I have not gotten
much useful information. Scouts do not like to write in detail.

*Other Business
*PLC - Anthony, Casey, Christian, David, Chris

Trying to get them to work together more, coordinate activities, and follow
through with their jobs.

*Joshua Tree Campout - what happened to non-climbing program

Casey did not relay the plan to the PLC members attending. See comment above.

*Mock Trial - Marc Bernstein - lawyer #1/ ??? - lawyer #2

Rod Rummelsburg will be Trial Lawyer #2. We will divide the Troop into two
equal groups at the first meeting. It will not be done by Patrol. Uniform will
be Class B for the first night. We will need to start at 7 PM sharp both
Tuesdays. It is very important for ALL Scouts to be in attendance on BOTH nights
for this to work. One group will go to the AM Vet's building, the other one
will remain at the shack. Each group will be doing the same trial. Parts will
be assigned the first night. There are approximately 15 parts plus jurors
for each trial. After parts are decided, the lawyers will start interviewing
winterizes. There will be a game outside for jurors and witnesses to
participate in while not being interviewed. The REAL lawyers will go over procedures
with the Judge and attorneys.

It is very important that witnesses only talk to the attorneys about what
they know and only give information that they are asked for. They also should
not add any additional information to their scripts. Attorneys can continue
interviewing witnesses over the phone between weeks if needed to prepare for
the trial.

The second Tuesday, the trial will start at 7 PM sharp. Scouts should dress
appropriately for their part in the trial. For example, lawyers in suits,
bailiff in uniform, etc. It is vitally important that every Scout with a part
shows up on time for the trial. Each witness holds keys to the case. Scouts who
were not at the first meeting will be jurors. The jury will hopefully come
up with a verdict by the end of the night.

PUT THE ABOVE COMMENTS IN THE NEWSLETTER.

*Bike Ride - scouts to bring money for lunch and arcade (about$20?)/ 2nd
class advancement?will need map, scouts bring compass

We will leave at 9 AM and return around 4 PM. We need adults to ride with
the Scouts. There will be no free games or rides this year.

*Broom ball

Casey should plan this.

*When is Planning meeting for rest of the year?

Early December is best. Anthony should plan this. He is supposed to be
having monthly PLC meetings with the ASPLs and Patrol Leaders.

*Webelos - need to invite soon for the Jan.21/22 casitas campoput. How much
shld we charge? Need adult to cook dinner/breakfast, bring sack lunch. Invite
to troop mtg Jan17, parent mtg/webelos program during mtg.

Are all details in order: water, map, reservation name or number or no res.
necessary?
Flyer info needed by Thursday to make the newsletter, $10per scout

I really want to change this to Musch Camp. Spruce Grove is 4 miles mostly
uphill on the way their and I am worried that many of the younger Scouts may
have a difficult time with this as their first backpack. I also have not heard
if Spruce Grove is accessible.

deadline?$40/Tuesday before campout
