I agree with Ami; the project is great, but the day is not the best for getting scouts to go.

I fully support his project as there was just an article in today's LA Times stating that many food banks will be running very short as so many people have supported the Katrina efforts. SOVA is a great program. However, December 10th is the day of the bike ride so it may divide the troop.

Erik,
I just called your cell phone and left a message briefly explaining my situation. Over the last month I have been working with the SOVA Community Food Program, namely with Maxine Meyer (Resource Development Specialist) (818) 988-7682. My plan entitles gathering materials, arranging scenarios, and supervising the actual project for 2 (or possibly 3) days. The first day, most likely saturday Decemeber 10th, I would need a few cars and about 10-20 workers for a couple hours to distribute fliers attatched to paper bags to the hundreds of houses on the Culver Crest neighboorhood. (I have the flier completely made and am awaiting approval by Ms. Meyer.) The flier notifies the residents that we will pick up the donations the following saturday, December 17th. For that day I will need about 10-20 workers and a few big cars to collect the bags and bring them back to my house. That same day, I will supervise the sorting of the goods into catagories and proper packaging. (This is
where most of the work hours will come from.) The closest following day that the local SOVA center is open (on Robertson) I will supervise the transfer of the goods.
I understand the urgency of this project since the designated dates are fast approaching. The reason for this time is because of the extra motivation for people to donate to less fortunate families in time for the holidays. I understand and oppoligize for not previously explaining in detail my project to you. I think this plan would satisfy the requirements for an eagle project because of its large scale/depth, planning involved, working hours, supervision, and non-profit contribution to the community. Please contact me ASAP (839-8663 bigmike001 at earthlink.net) so that we can meet and address any aspect of the plan that needs to be altered, and hopefully complete the project on the designated dates.
Sincerely,
Michael Winston
