Hey Erik,
I still have grave concerns about both the project and Casey's ability to accomplish it in time. I expressed this to him at the meeting last Tuesday. I told him that while I am rooting for him to make it, time and lack of planning are working against him.
Among my misgivings are the following:
1. While the project of collecting coats for the needy is basically a sound one, the way Casey proposes to accomplish the collection has too many gaps. Has he checked with the schools and the district yet to even see if they will let him set up the collection boxes? What is his contingency plan if they do not allow it? (Remember the problems Jon Brownstein had with his book collection efforts a few years ago.)
2. Has Casey figured out how he is going to get the word out if his first approach doesn't work? (Historically, such things as collection drives do not do well when left to the public to make the effort.)
3. Casey seems to think that this entire project can be accomplished in only a week. I told him that most of the time it takes three to four weeks to insure an adequate response from those wishing to donate. Then, he needs to add in the time needed to sort out the coats since some will not be in a condition worthy of donation. Add to this the time needed to write up the final report and the review process and I fear Casey has misjudged his time by more than a month.
4. From the summary of the project, I still do not see where Casey will be getting enough total hours of work time or leadership to qualify as an Eagle project.
These are only my opinions, but they should be addressed before Casey proceeds.
Take care,
Bruce
