I know I haven't responded to the emails, but I did state my opinion at this afternoon's committee meeting. Drake needs to grow as a leader. He called Aaron last Tuesday afternoon for the troop meeting that night and stated he wasn't sure if the uniform for that meeting was to be class A or B. I agree that Drake is too young for all this and he needs some maturing to go.

i think we should all be there to discuss this with Carole. It cannot be Mondays, or Tuesday, March 11. Can we meet another evening this week? I'm free.

Just a thought, if Carole is researching all this, shouldn't she be familiar with the approval process? Which starts with the scoutmaster, then the proposal... which we never received.

I can meet on Monday. We have a very busy meeting on the 11th and I will not
be able to meet at 7 PM. I do not remember talking to Drake in January about
a project. If we did it was most likely Drake wanting to know if he could do
a blood drive for his project and me saying yes, not knowing that Drake was
planning to do this right away.

As far as not getting back to Carole, I purposely did not reply to her
awaiting Ami's intervention.

We discussed this issue at this afternoon's Troop Committee Meeting and
everyone was in agreement that Drake is not ready for his project. I am
aware that you can do your project before other requirements are done. That
is not the issue as I see it. Drake needs to mature more as a Scout and
demonstrate more leadership as a Patrol Leader, ASPL, or SPL before I
believe he will be ready for his Eagle project. His only leadership to date
is Chaplain's Aide and one month as Patrol Leader. All of our past Eagles
had done significantly more leadership. Lee Wolkowitz made Eagle at age 14,
but he was mature and an exceptional Scout.

What time do we want to meet on Monday?

Erik

Hi,

I just got off the phone with Carol Myers. She is very upset. She feels
that Drake was told one thing in January and is now being told something
else. At this point I have suggested that we have a meeting with her,
Drake, Erik, Peter and me and possibly Patti to discuss this situation so
that we can move forward. Erik, she feels that you have not communicated to
Drake in a clear manner what he should or should not be doing. I did tell
her that often our young sons are told one thing and that they hear
something else. Again, we all need to be in the same room and get all of us
on the same page. If we as a group feel that Drake is too young to do the
project we need to tell him that and have concrete evidence as to why we
feel that way. According to the scout books a scout can be working on their
merit badges and project at the same time. Drake does know that he must
submit the project to Erik and to the Advancement board of the troop for
approval before he can move to the next step. Carol said that he was not
told that when he came to Erik in January with the idea.

I don't want to get into a he said she said discussion. I think that we
need to all meet the week after next and close this chapter. Carol and I
can't meet on Monday, March 10th but could meet on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
before the troop meeting. Let me know what you think and then Erik could
you please coordinate this. Carol is very upset that you have not responded
to Drake or to her so we need to get this finalized now.

Thanks,

Ami

that he complete more of the merit badges and leadership before he
undertakes the project. I explained the process - however, you may want to
send him the links. I explained that he must not schedule anything until
all approvals are complete. He wants to get things done before he gets to
high school because he is concerned with the work load. I told him to get
those merit badges completed by the end of the summer and consider doing the
project in the fall. I did tell him that eagles who do these projects when
they are slightly older get more out of them. I explained that an eagle
project is not only about doing the project but how you lead the project.
You should not be doing all of the work.

I offered to meet with him to discuss this or if he or his mom have any
additional questions.
