Ahoy mateys!
Yes, you leave for Catalina this coming Sunday! To make sure you're ready, here are a few last-minute reminders:
1. Med forms: As of tonight (Tuesday) I am still waiting for twelve scouts and one adult chaperone to turn in forms. You may bring them to my house --- don't risk the mail at this late date --- up until Saturday morning. As a last resort, bring forms to the ship on Sunday, and give them to Andrew Leist. He will be in charge of them at camp.
2. That morning: Eat smart. No heavy, greasy foods. If you are prone to motion sickness, plan to take a Dramamine or other product about an hour before sailing... and bring an extra one for the return trip. You may wish to bring a snack to eat that afternoon... dinner may be late. A sandwich, an apple --- chocolate is yummy but likely to melt in the heat!
3. Show up on time... early is even better! Be at the Catalina Express dock by 12:45 PM on Sunday. Wear your Class A uniform (sash is not required). Optional: Wear swim trunks under your uniform. You will have a "water safety" test soon after landing at Emerald Bay.
4. When you get there: Find Vernon Taylor and Tony Monteleone. They will help you attach "Troop 113" tags to all luggage, day packs, etc. Also find Mike Gaines. He will be the Troop 113 "banker." Give him your spending money (recommended: $40 - $50, or more if you know you'll be doing activities that cost money, such as leatherwork... $5 bills are best). Mike has a system to keep everyone's bank "accounts" honest and accurate.
5. Parents: I will be home all week, acting as the "mainland contact" person. You may call or e-mail me with questions, if necessary.
6. Pickup on Saturday, July 30 will be at the same place, at 2:00 PM. Be ready to greet some tired but happy campers!
All aboard --- have a great time!
:-)
Robin
