Ahoy Maties!

Yes, you're leaving for camp this coming Sunday! Yippee!

Here are some important details for you and your family:

(1) Directions to the ship:
#405 freeway south to the #110
        #110 freeway to San Pedro
Go to the END of the freeway; turn left.
You're on Gaffey. Continue to 1st Street; turn left.
Continue to the end of 1st Street. Turn left again.
You're on Harbor Blvd. Look for a pillar on your right that says "Catalina."
        Turn in and park.

(2) Get to the port by 11:30 AM on Sunday. Wear your Class A uniform.
Parents, pickup will be at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon.

(3) When you get into the building, find our adult chaperone (this year, it's
Jack Maia). He will give you Troop 113 luggage tags for your duffel,
sleeping bag, and any other item you might have (like a backpack).
It's a good idea to mark them with your own name and phone number, too.

(4) Bring about $50 cash, in five-dollar bills. Give this to the adult chaperone.
He will be your "bank" during camp. You may withdraw money when needed
for materials needed for merit badges, a toothbrush, "emergency" candy
bars, etc. All unused money in your "account" will be returned to you on the
     last day of camp.

(5) Take motion-sickness pills with you, if you're susceptible. Also, bring a
sack lunch... dinner on Sunday may be later than you'd like.

(6) Pack your swim trunks and towel "on top" in your luggage; you'll need them
right away when you land, for swim tests.

(7) Recommended but not required:
        - at least one set of clothing, including underwear, for each day... things
          get very dirty at camp
        - a bath towel to use as a mat when changing... tent floors are dirty
        - a flat sheet to put over the camp mattress... the plastic mattress is
sticky when hot; the sheet allows you to open your sleeping bag and
          use it as a blanket
        - a pair of "water shoes" or "aqua socks" for the beach... it's rocky...
some folks like to wear these in the shower, too
        - fins, face mask, snorkel... if you like to use them, bring your own; you
can rent them, but it's expensive
        - merit badge books for the badges you're pursuing... the camp store
sometimes runs out of popular books

(8) Parents or others who wish to send mail to you -- send it no later than
     Wednesday... mail service is slow!

(8) Emergency camp phone number: (310) 510-1795
Emergency camp fax number: (310) 510-1797

(9) Erik usually sends you an email address that you may use to reach him
during the week. Watch for photos that he may send, too!

I will be out of town during the week of camp, but if you have questions, please contact Patti Bravo or the Scout Council. They'll happily tell you everything you need to know.

Have a great week, campers and families alike!

:-)
