He said that campfires have been banned for the rest of the season. He also said that it was dry and did not rain that much. He also said that they now give plenty of gatorade in the meals. During the time that we are on the trail, we will be out of contact and unable to receive mail. We will be able to send mail from the staffed camps, so if your Scout wants to send mail make sure that they are prepared with postage. Post cards can be purchased at the Philmont Trading Post prior to hitting the trail. I am considering taking my Blackberry with me on the hike. IF I do, I will only be able to receive and transmit e-mail and phone messages when we are on mountain peaks and high passes. I know from earlier this summer that my cell phone does not work after Albuquerque on the train or at Base Camp at Philmont. IF it works on the trail, my e-mail address is erik@bsatroop113.org . The EMERGENCY phone number to Philmont is 505-376-2281. Although both of our Crews will be on the same Itinerary (Itinerary 3) and doing a lot together, we will be operating separately.
