Hi all,

To meet the requirement for the 50 miler patch, you need to complete the 50 mile trek (Philmont), and do 10 hours of conservation work. Three hours should have been completed while at Philmont, so that leaves 7 hours to get this difficult to earn patch. This would be a great patch to work on for the next COH!!

Page 4 of the Philmont book indicates that these 7 hours should be conservation work. Scouts from either Philmont trek can earn this patch by completing these hours. I'm not sure, but it seems that scouts that went on both the 2005 and 2007 trips would have completed 6 hours (and only need 4 more).

Erik will be sending out information on an upcoming trail maintenance in the valley. In addition, I have found some possibilities at the LAWorks website:
  http://www.laworks.com/

Upcoming events that qualify as conservation are:

Sat, Sept 8 10am - 2pm: Ballona Wetlands - conflict w/ Shack cleanup day for the Seniors
Sun, Sept 9 :30 - 12:30: Gibbon Conservation Center in Santa Clarita
Sat, Sept 15 9 - noon: Costal Cleanup day (westside)
  Sat, Sept 15 9am - 1pm: Franklin Canyon Park

I have details for all of these. Events like these are held on a monthly basis. Space will be limited and each scout needs to sign up independently on the LAWorks website. They need to sign up early or the space will be gone. If enough people sign up for a given date, we can arrange carpooling.

  Sharon
